Ms. Grace Dillon is our newly hired sixth grade intervention specialist. Ms. Dillon graduated from Bowling Green State University. She comes from a very large family and has 10 siblings! The 2015-2016 school year marks Ms. Dillon’s first year of teaching. As an Intervention Specialist, Ms. Dillon will follow students into each subject throughout the school day. She enjoys giving other teachers ideas as to how to get students out of their seats and moving. As the year continues, Ms. Dillon hopes that while her students learn from her, she can learn from them as well. A little secret…Ms. Dillon always has candy in her classroom! Ms. Dillon is looking forward to getting to know each of the students and members of the staff. She stated, “I have already received such a warm welcome!”
Ms. Erin Murphy will also be joining the sixth grade teaching team this year. Last year, Ms. Murphy taught fourth grade Language Arts and Social Studies in Cincinnati, Ohio. This year, Ms. Murphy’s students can look forward to reading and writing journals, novel studies, and book projects. Ms. Murphy is a huge Disney fan and named Disney World as her most favorite place to visit. Disney decorations can be found all around her classroom and her home. Ms. Murphy is looking forward to getting to know her students and working with them every day. Ms. Murphy is very excited to be at Northwood, and can’t wait for a great school year!
Mrs. Kara Myers will be teaching business education classes at the high school this year. This will be Mrs. Myers’ third year in the teaching profession. Mrs. Myers grew up in a small town in Central Indiana but spent her summers counting worms for a bait store in Port Clinton, Ohio. She recently moved from Minnesota where she taught at Lake-Savage Middle and High School. Mrs. Myers is eager to begin building relationships with the students, staff, and the community. Mrs. Myers stated, “Introducing students to the dynamic role business plays in each of our lives is exciting to me.”
This year, students will have the opportunity to be members in Business Professionals of America. BPA is a fantastic student group that provides opportunities for students to bring the knowledge gained in the classroom to real world experiences. Business classes are full of hands-on activities and projects. Mrs. Myers warns that her classroom is active and can even be a bit loud! Her goal is for students to gain lifelong skills that will immediately benefit them when entering the workforce or continuing on to a post-secondary program. Mrs. Myers would like to add that this is a pilot year for the Business Education program at NHS. Mrs. Myers urges community members to contact her if interested in being a volunteer for a BPA event, guest speaking, or being a point of contact for students interested in learning about specific careers. She welcomes and appreciates the time, talents, and ideas of community members!
